2. Reference photos for colors
For this image, I created a bright color version of the photo to make it look lively.
Project 1
Project 1
i) Physical Collage (10%) :
For my physical collage, I gather some pictures from magazines and printouts that fit the theme I have in mind as there are no predetermined topics.
PRE-COMPOSITION #1
PRE-COMPOSITION #2
PRE-COMPOSITION #3
My favorite composition are the pre-composition 1 and 3. After getting feedbacks from Mr Martin, I finally chose pre-composition 3 as my final arrangement for the physical collage submission.
"FINAL OUTCOME"
ii) Digital Imaging 1 (Me in Hearst Mansion) (5%) :
Mr Martin has shown us a demo through the exercise by using Shazam as an example. Now we have to use our self taken image to use as the example.
Figure 1.5 : Original Self Image
SHORTCUT KEYS:
- Zoom in/out ("Control +/-")
- Increase/decrease brush size ("Alt + press long right click mouse")
2. I then drag & drop my image into the Hearst Mansion, resize my image by pressing "Control + T" and reposition it to the desire place.
3. Then, I adjust colour correction: Image → Adjustments → Match colour
4. Next, I match image quality by adding Noise filter to my image.
5. Create Shadow for my image:
- Create New Layer (and rename as Shadow)
- Use Brush Tool
- Draw a black shadow on the background of my image’s layer
6. Next, I apply Gaussian Blur effect on the shadow layer and reduce the Shadow’s layer to 50% opacity.
- Duplicate the my image’s layer
- Rename the layer as reflection
- Use Polygonal Lasso Tool to cut the reflection and add layer mask
8. Adjust the colour correct for reflection layer:
- Hue/Saturation: Image → Adjustments
"FINAL OUTCOME"
Figure 1.6 : Photo Manipulation (Self)
Following the steps guided by Mr Martin, I've photoshopped my self into the hearts mansion by learning how to create a shadow and reflection on the water, and how to also be able to blend to the surroundings to make it look more natural.
iii) Digital Imaging 2 (B&W Recoloring) (5%):
1. Exercise
Figure 1.7 : Recoloring photo exercise
Through this exercise, I've learned how to add color to a black-and-white image by shading and masking.
3. Self Pick (5%)
For the self pick image, I chose Lisa from BlackPink to recolour her image.
Figure 2.0 : Self Pick (B&W)
1. First, I select skin reference picture (Figure 1.8) colour with Marquee Tool and copy the selected area.
SHORTCUT KEY:
- MARQUEE TOOL: M
- COPY: CMD/CTRL C
2. Then I paste the selection at the B&W self pick portrait (Figure 2.0) and rename the new created layer to 'skin colour'. Select Eyedropper Tool (SHORTCUT KEY:I) and changed the Sample Size to: 5 by 5 AVERAGE
3. I will use Eyedropper Tool to pick up Highlight and paint on top with the Brush Tool (SIZE:30, HARDNESS:100%). Repeat the process for Midtone and Shadow.
4. Then I repeated the process for choosing Highlight, Midtone, Shadow from Hair colour reference image (Figure 1.9).
5. Next, I select hair with Quick Selection Tool and refine selection in Select & Mask.
6. In the Select & Mask section, select Overlay and Refine Edge Brush Tool and brush over the edges of the hair. After refining, select (Output To: Layer Mask).
7. Then, I created a New Solid Layer and use Colour Picker to choose hair colour.
8. I then Drag & Drop the hair layer mask to the new solid layer to replace layer mask, and I select SOFTLIGHT (BLENDING MODE).
9. For the face, I just repeated the process:
- Layer Masks: Use Quick Selection Tool to roughly make selection.
- Refine Mask with Select & Mask mode.
- Use brush tool mask out EYES and LIPS.
10. Repeat the process:
- Output to: Layer Mask.
- Create New Solid Layer, Use Colour Picker to choose skin colour.
- Drag & Drop hair layer mask to new solid layer to replace layer mask,
- Select SOFTLIGHT (BLENDING MODE).
11. The process is then repeated for the clothes she's wearing by reference to the colour image (Figure 2.0). I also created a Solid Layer with Layer Mask to recolour her EYES, LIPS, and TEETH.
12. Now for the background colour, I use Quick Selection Tool to select the subject first and then
go to select and mask section to add a New Layer Mask and clean layer mask with brush tool. After that, I INVERT LAYER MASK: Image → Adjustment → Invert
13. Lastly, I added the inverted Layer Mask to a New Solid Layer and chose a background colour which is pastel blue.
