Week 9- Week 14 (29/05/2023-7/7/2023)

Final Project

Theme: SELF-TITLED
Self-titled is an exploration project for the students to express their own individuality and reflect their personality into digital art self-expression.

The main idea is to build up self-confidence and discover their interest.

PART 1: WEEK 10 (5 marks)

Idea Development
- Wrote a biography about myself

INTRO

My name is Weng Yi and I’m 21 this year. I’m currently in my second year of degree studying biomedical science in Taylor’s.

PARAGRAPH 1

I pursue in Biomedical Science because I have interest in the Science field since I was in primary school. I always like to know more about how our body works. During my freetime, I would rest in my bed and watch Kdrama all day as I am an Introvert myself.

PARAGRAPH 2

Although this course is far related to what I’m studying, I chose this course as my free electives because ever since I was small, I like to take photographs of other people and the sceneries to keep it as memories. When I’m older, I find myself having an interest in photoshop as I like to edit my pictures. I really like things that are arranged neatly and in composition.

SUMMARY

Through this course, I hope to learn more about Photoshop so I can gain a new skill and able to express my creativity.

- Wrote a statement about my work

INTRO

For this project, we are tasked to use a photo of our self and express our own personality into a form of art. For me, I would like to express myself as a music lover. I want to show a different side of me which is musical art side beside science side as I like to listen to music 24/7. My music taste is within the range of Pop, K-pop, Ballad, Jazz and R&B genre.

PARAGRAPH 1

For my 1st idea, I wanted to express that when I listen to music, I felt relax and times go by fast. They say listening to music releases a feel good hormone which is dopamine. Hence, I wanted to show that in my head, there’s happy moments going by as I listen to music.

PARAGRAPH 2

For my 2nd idea, I want to express my enjoyment of music by tapping a cloud with a pencil that triggers the start of music and brings musical instruments to life. It will begin with me wondering which song to put on and when I start tapping the cloud, the music starts and the background will be colourful surrounded by moving musical instruments.

SUMMARY

Finally, I chose the 1st idea to be the final poster as it implies more meaning to the theme I want.

- Studied and gathered all related information about my topic: 3 POSTER REFERENCE

PART 2: WEEK 11 (5 marks)

Design Direction
- Created a sketch for my work.

SKETCH #1 SKETCH #2

- Created a digital poster for my work.

DIGITAL POSTER #1

Draft 1
1. First, I use Quick Selection Tool to mask out my portrait from the image below.

2. For the background, I use a calm tone colour and select the filter gallery (Texturizer).

3. Then, I use the Pen tool to cut my forehead out to make it look like it open. But after some feedbacks from Mr Martin, I decided to placed it above my head to make it look like its floating.

4. Then, I created new layer and use Elliptical Marquee tool to create an oval shape.
Fill in colour, using eyedropper to choose colour from shadow of my skin.
Edit → Fill → Colour

5. Then I use free transform mode Ctrl T  to adjust size & angle and use warp mode to adjust shape.

6. Next, I adjust Inner/outer glow in Blending Options for both fill in layers.

7. Next, I added the roman clock behind my portrait by selecting Darken (Blending Mode) and music bar from my left ear to my right ear. I also change the colour of the music bar to make it visible and suit the background of the clock. I also adjusted the brightness and contrast of the clock to make the contrast not so strong.

8. Few bubbles and sparkle is added on top of my head and I adjusted the brightness and contrast too.

9. Lastly, I added music notes on the surrounding me and also adjusted the brightness and contrast of the whole picture.

DIGITAL POSTER #2

1.
First, I use Quick Selection Tool to mask out my portrait from the image below.

2. Then I added piano, guitar and saxophone image.

3. Next, I added the cloud and the string holding it. I adjusted the brightness and contrast to make it look like it lights up. I also added musical notes in the cloud.

4. Lastly, I added a flower filed background with mountains for the background and adjusted the brightness and contrast.

DIGITAL POSTER #1 DIGITAL POSTER #2

From this two posters, I like the first poster more. After some feedbacks from Mr Martin, he also said the first poster is easier to animate than the second one.

PART 3: WEEK 12 (10 Marks)

Execution and Post Production
- Develop the composition techniques using Digital Photography & Graphic Design.

FINAL POSTER

TITLE: “Harmony in Time”

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Through my poster, I seek to capture the profound impact of music on our emotions and perception of time. When I immerse myself in music, I feel a sense of relaxation, allowing time to slip away unnoticed. It's in these moments that I'm transported to a place where worries fade away, and I find solace in the embrace of relaxation. Inspired by the scientific concept that music triggers the release of dopamine, the "feel good" hormone, I aim to translate this euphoria into visual language. Within my artwork, one will discover a symphony of joyous memories, fleeting glimpses of happiness cascading through the canvas.

PART 4: WEEK 13 (10 Marks)

Animation & Finishing

- Import your Final Poster to After Effects

- Animate your composition in After Effects

- Attach your video progress.

Progress:

1. I first started to animate each of the object, whether I want them to rotate or change the opacity or even change their position so it sync together.

For my 1st draft, I was still thinking what to put for my audio. I also feel that the time move abit fast so I decided to slow down a bit. My portrait and the other elements like the music bar and music note also appeared too fast so I decided to slow down a bit. Besides, I also feel that my forehead float a bit slow so I need to make it move faster. For the motion for the bubbles and sparkles coming out of my head, I decided to follow the motion of my forehead which is floating up and down.

FINAL VIDEO: WEEK 14

Progress:

1. After some changes, I added audio to my animation by cropping it to get the music I want.
